Musicology Spring News 2016
Summer is just around the corner, check out our Camps!
-RockBand Camp June 13th-17th, July 11th-115th If you love to play music and jam with others, this is the camp for you! Campers will learn songs in a band setting and prepare to perform those songs Saturday following camp. The performance will be held at The Alamo on the square. Doors open at 4pm (6+months experience in instrument required)
-Guitar Orchestra June 20th-24th, July 18th-22th (10am-1pm) Take your musical skills to the next level and have fun playing with others! In Guitar Orchestra, campers will play together in duos and trios. We will play familiar and not-so-familiar tunes arranged for small groups. Students will quickly appreciate the importance of accuracy in rhythm and note-playing as we work to blend the parts together. The group will analyze each piece to determine the most important parts to bring out at specific points in the arrangements. All campers won’t be playing in every ensemble, so they will have the opportunity to listen and observe rehearsals with the others, adding another instructional level to each session. We will spend a portion of each session reviewing and reinforcing note reading and rhythmic skills through games and rhythm instruments. Guitar Orchestra offers an excellent review of the skills the campers are learning in their regular lessons. We will perform our selections for parents and guests on the last day of camp. Students should be comfortable reading standard notation (staff and notes) and know the natural notes in first position. We will not be using TAB. Students will need to practice at home in preparation for the Friday concert. It’s fine to enroll students in both sessions. They can play different arrangements in their second session.
