Doug Kees, Owner
Doug Kees began professional performances while still in high school in Atlanta. He continued studying music at Georgia State University where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. Since that time, with thousands of performances to his credit, he has performed in concert halls, nightclubs, churches, fraternity houses, recording studios, restaurants, and schools from Seattle to Detroit, from Memphis to Key West and across the Southeast.
His recording credits include performances on “Could You Please and Thank You” by Peter Searcy on Epic Records which was also featured in Dawson’s Creek on the FOX network and MTV’s The Real World. As a member of the Johnny Hyde group, he performed at the 1999-99X Deck the Hall Ball opening for Kid Rock and Oleander. He also appeared with Johnny Hyde at the 2000 Music Midtown Festival on the 99X main stage along with Collective Soul.
In 1989 he founded Doug Kees Music Services which currently provides hundreds of music lessons each week as well as dozens of performances and recordings each year. In 1993 he started the Band Program at The Heritage School where he continues to serve on the faculty at the Music Department. In January, 2007 Doug Kees Music Services moved to a new location in downtown Newnan. At Musicology, Doug and 7 talented instructors will continue to serve the community’s music students. |

Mary Boyd
Mary Boyd has been providing piano instruction to students from elementary to high school levels as well as private piano lessons since 1963. She graduated from George Peabody College with a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance. She received her teaching certificate in Music Education and a Masters in Music from the University of West Georgia. She has also earned an Add-On Teaching Certificate in Middle Grades Education.
She taught piano in the Carrollton City School System, directed the Carrollton Presbyterian Church Youth Choir, directed adult and youth choir programs as Music Director of the Carrollton Presbyterian Church, and was General Music Instructor for Central Middle School grades 6-8. |

Torrie Boyd
Torrie is a professional drummer who grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida but now resides in Carrollton, Georgia. Torrie studied drums at the Atlanta Institute of Music under Tom Knight (who worked with TLC and Diana Degarmo), Chris Coleman (who worked with Isreal Newbreed) and Craig Harber. Torrie graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Music in 2005. He performs regularly with jazz and rock groups and is the on-call drummer for many churches in Atlanta. |

Chris Burroughs
Chris Burroughs is a versatile and experienced drummer who performs frequently in the Newnan and metro Atlanta areas. Burroughs has brought his distinctive drum sound to groups such as Miguel Romero, Complete Desire, Gwen Hughes, and recording artist Reverend Robert Chapman. His own projects include Afrosounds, Aura, and Reverse. Burroughs has 14 years of private music instruction experience, 6 of these with Doug Kees Music Services Teaching Studios. Jody Butler
Jody Butler taught in both the Carroll County and Carrollton City school systems for twenty-six years, specializing in gifted education. She earned her B.S. Ed. from West Georgia College in 1979, with a music minor in classical guitar. She received a master's degree in education from West Georgia College and her doctorate from Auburn University. Jody came to work for Doug Kees Music Services in January, 2005. She performs fingerstyle and classical guitar at restaurants and special events and also plays mountain and hammer dulcimer. Jody has attended the Swannanoa Gathering Guitar Week in Asheville, NC for several years, studying with guitarists Muriel Anderson, Ed Gerhard, Al Petteway, Pete Huttlinger, and Robin Bullock. |

Diane Durrett
Diane Durrett has long reflected the musical passions that inspired her when growing up in Atlanta, Georgia. She spent the last five years earning her education on Nashville’s Music Row. While at Polygram Publishing, Durrett learned the songwriting business and is now president of The Durrett Publishing Company (BMI) based in Atlanta. Songs in her catalog include co-writes with Bonnie Bramlett (Superstar), Jerry Ragovoy (Piece of My Heart) , Jimbeau Hinson (Party Crowd) , and Georgia Music Hall of Famer William Bell (Born Under A Bad Sign) . She has received international accolades for her song “Take Me As I Am,” which is featured on the soundtrack of the film “Ready, Willing, and Able.”
Diane has opened for Faith Hill, Patty Loveless, Tina Turner, Delbert McClinton, and Derek Trucks, and lit up Atlanta in a “Stormy Monday” duet with Gregg Allman. In the corporate arena, she lent her vocal talents to a major ad campaign for Ford and co-wrote the annual theme song for Primerica with Jayne Olderman, and the Kroger Corporation selected their acclaimed song “Whatever Makes Your Soul Sing” for their 100th year celebration.
Honored early on by the Atlanta Songwriter’s Association, Diane has continued to hone her craft by producing music in major studios.
Diane says, “Songs are the colorful fibers that weave our lives together. They comfort us, help us reflect and find direction, and express our love. Great songs are invisible threads that pull people together”.

David Puett
David Puett graduated from The Atlanta Institute of Music and is a product of their rigorous Guitar Program. His degree includes a background of Jazz, Rock, and Classical styles. In February 2005, David began teaching guitar and bass with Doug Kees Music Services. Along with teaching David is a member of Newnan’s own Marlow’s Theory, an original rock band in which he plays the bass guitar. David is also the bass player for the 13-time Grammy nominated Jessi Lynn Band. In addition to his performances with Jessi Lynn, he has also done numerous solo performances for special events, corporate openings, and weddings. One of David’s other passions is recording. He has a personal recording studio in his home and takes great pride in recording and producing albums for his own bands as well as doing the studio work for other local artists. David is an all around musician and passes his passion and love for music along to his students.

Patrick Thompson
Patrick Thompson graduated with a Bachelor of Music Composition with distinction from Clayton State University where he studied on a full tuition music scholarship. While in college, he received the honor from faculty and staff to represent the school and perform his own compositions in Budapest, Hungary. Patrick has taught guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, and private songwriting lessons with Doug Kees’ Music Services since February 2005. Patrick writes and arranges music for his rock band, Marlow's Theory , of which he is also the lead guitarist and lead singer. He plays bass and sings back-up in another original band, Playground Rivals. Along with Marlow's Theory and Playground Rivals, he also plays guitar and sings back-up for Newnan's own country rock singer, Jessi Lynn. Patrick has over a decade of experience on stage and in a recording studio, from classical and jazz to rock & roll settings.

Lacy Yates
Lacy is a classically trained pianist and member of the Music Teachers National Association. She can provide lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. She has been playing piano for 20 years and recently graduated from Clayton State University with a Bachelors in Piano and Piano Pedagogy. While attending the university, Lacy studied under Dr. Michiko Otaki, and participated in many activities within the music department, such as Choir, Jazz Band, and Duo Piano Ensemble. She has been playing on a professional level for 15 years and attended Clayton State on a full scholarship. Lacy has the experience and love of music necessary to give students well-rounded instruction promoting sound musical growth.
